Green Funeral Procession

Controlling the black
    Snow swoops down beautifully
While swaying in darkness
    A green flame rises

My mind and body shiver
A sleep delusion without choice
The tip of my tongue curls around
If I were to touch it...

The glossy, mourning true green ridiculed the gods' colours
If I can be wrapped up in haze I'll dissolve into distorted drips

White feathers are chopped up
Stained by a hundred nights
A calling soul is guided
To a fleeting life, to mischief...

The glossy, mourning true green ridiculed the gods' colours
If I can be wrapped up in haze I'll dissolve into distorted drips

In this life, the deathless gods sing of the swaying true green
And tonight again, the funeral procession is filled by mist

Notes:

The colour 碧 (ao) can be blue or green. I translated it as green because Isshi uses green a lot in the song, with no real mention of blue. For example, the "green flame" in the first stanza is 麹塵 (kikujin), the colour of a residue left over by the mold on rice that is used to make sake. The kanji are 'mold' + 'dirt' respectively, and the colour is this

Anyway, this is a story about Hitodama, a sphere of fire with a tail, said to represent a human soul. Isshi talks about the meaning in this interview.
